Privacy & ownership

Everything you save in Jewish Family Legacy is private to your family archive. Nothing is public, nothing is shared to a feed, and nothing is surfaced to other families. You decide who in your family can listen, and what — if anything — is shared.

The voices, photographs, recipes, and details you preserve are yours. You can play them, download the original files, edit the surrounding details, or delete anything at any time. When you delete a story, both its database record and its stored audio and photographs are removed.

The original recording is the primary record. We never silently replace, rewrite, regenerate, or remove it. If a transcript or a lightly edited reading version is added later, it is stored separately and stays clearly connected to the original — which always remains.

Audio and photographs are stored in private storage. They are never given permanent public links. Access is checked against your family archive membership every time a file is opened, played, or downloaded — so only people you have invited can reach them.

Hard subjects — the Holocaust, persecution, displacement, family separation, loss — are always optional. They are entered deliberately, previewed before you begin, private by default, and never surfaced unexpectedly. Jewish life is never framed primarily through trauma.

Any future AI assistance is held to strict rules:

• Suggestions are clearly labeled and always optional, reviewable, and reversible.
• AI never invents a memory, a family relationship, a translation, or a historical fact.
• Uncertain origins are never presented as fact, and family recollection is never presented as halacha.
• Any generated summary links back to the original sources it drew from.

• We do not write the private contents of your memories into analytics or logs.
• We do not sell your data or share it between families.
• We do not require you to document an entire life — one story is enough.
